Some inspiration for us all - maybe this weekend we could all give it a go?? I dare either the first team or reserves to try and out do this time.
| Amateur nets world's fastest goal |
An amateur footballer has netted the world's fastest goal straight from kick-off - in just two seconds. Marc Burrows was playing for Cowes reserves in the Sydenham's Wessex League when he struck. The Daily Mirror reports the striker tried his luck from the halfway line, and a strong gust of wind carried the ball over the opposition keeper. The referee timed the goal at two seconds. The current world record is 2.8 seconds and Guinness are now checking Marc's claim. The 25-year-old went on to score a hat-trick as his side beat Eastleigh reserves 5-3. He said: "The goal surprised everyone. I thought I'd have a go because the wind was so strong. "I was so stumped to see it sail over their keeper I didn't really celebrate. I just burst out laughing. I've tried it before but the ball normally goes for a throw in and I feel like a right prat." Referee John Sorrell said: "It was a great strike, better than Beckham's when he scored from halfway against Wimbledon. I timed it at two seconds. I don't think you could score faster."
